Capvidia enables CAD MBD use in downstream processes

Leuven, Belgium, January 20, 2017 - Capvidia today announced an expanded partnership with Siemens PLM Software, to extend the reuse of NX™ software Model-Based Definition (MBD) data in manufacturing enterprises.

Siemens PLM Software has long been a leader in developing and supporting standards for digital product development—including ASME Y14.41, which codifies 3D Product and Manufacturing Information (PMI), and provides the foundation for MBD, the process of creating fully annotated 3D product models and Model-Based Enterprise (MBE), the process of reusing those models in downstream digital applications.

As a part of this partnership, Capvidia will offer natively interoperable tools for users of NX, focused on the following areas:

  • MBD data reuse with support for ISO STEP ap242 and ANSI QIF (Quality Information Framework) industry standards
  • MBE with support for processes using either human or machine consumable (semantic) data
  • CAD Data Translation, Validation and Quality Assessment

Auto Generation of AS9102 First Article Inspection (FAI) Form in MBDVidia

Leuven, Belgium, August 16, 2016 – Capvidia announces the release of MBDVidia 3.5, extended for metrology applications. MBDVidia opens all major native CAD data formats and supports fully annotated MBD models. Users can now access the PMI (Product Manufacturing Information) without a costly license for a native CAD system. The PMI is automatically tagged (a.k.a., “numbered”, “ballooned”) in MBDVidia, organized in a BoC (Bill of Characteristics), and presented in a table.

Using the Bill of Characteristics, MBDVidia users can now generate First Article Inspection standard documents automatically. This includes support for the AS9102 First Article Inspection document so important to the aerospace industry. MBDVidia provides a ready-to-use AS9102 template in Excel format, allowing the data to be made available to anyone in a universally recognized file format.

Hannover Fair 2016: The BOGE compressor manufacturer uses FlowVision in a cloud to reduce development costs

Small and medium-sized companies are interested in the use of engineering software and high-performance computers.
The EU’s project CloudFlow provides both possibilities. Forty-six partner organizations from 13 European countries are working together in this project coordinated by the Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics Research IGD.
The project provides access to the numerical simulation software for small and medium-sized companies using cloud computing on the CloudFlow platform. In this solution the existing servers provide high computational performance for solving difficult problems (High Performance Computing, HPC). Customers pay for computational power and the software only when they use these resources via Internet. Use of cloud technologies allows the customers to:

  • use the software and infrastructure of high performance computations in a cost-effective way
  • solve high dimensional problems (complex part assemblies)
  • carry out several optimization projects on supercomputers in a parallel mode
